                                       FUND – A – NEED

Grants awarded in 2003-04 totaled $25,000 to enhance classroom education.

Fund-A-Need is an innovative web-based program developed to help students and staff in the Lincoln Public Schools.  The Fund-A-Need section of the Foundation’s web site allows teachers to post creative educational

ideas and needs online as a “proposal” for all to view.  Donors can choose from the online list of proposals and make a gift to fund a classroom need.

Dear Fellow Alumni,

I am Nancy Butler O’Brien, Class of 1959 and now the editor of your alumni newsletter.  After graduation

in 1959, I attended UN-L earning a Bachelor’s in Secondary Education with a history major.  After one

year of graduate work, I decided I should see if I liked teaching.  In 1964 I began teaching high school

history with Lincoln Public Schools and after 39 years, retired from LPS.  I am married, have two sons,

a daughter-in-law and a grandson, all living in Lincoln.

I would like to hear from you.  Please take time to write me about address change, marriages, birth

of children, deaths and most importantly, your accomplishments.  My e-mail address is nobrien@neb.rr.com

or mail to Nancy O’Brien, c/o Foundation for LPS, 5901 “O” Street, Lincoln, NE 68510.

                                      Your Help Is Needed

Lincoln High’s Auditorium needs updating.  Yes, the auditorium was fine for the technology of the 1930s,

1940s, 1950s, for the plays, the concerts, and Joy Night; but we know from the 1960s on, there have

been rapid changes in sound systems, seating, etc.  Lincoln High has an outstanding Fine Arts Department,

winning superiors in band competitions and winning the State Championship in one-act plays in 2003 and

2004; but with the opening of two new high schools in Lincoln with the latest in technology, the deficiencies

at Lincoln High are noticeable and an upgrade is needed.

Things being considered are improving the sound system and riggings, purchasing a new grand piano,

installing upholstered seating, providing for a projection screen and projector, and revamping the

orchestra pit.

Lincoln High is working to create an “Update Lincoln High’s Auditorium Campaign.”  As you think about

your contributions for 2005, think about including this campaign in your donation plans.
