This class meets only minimum requirements for graduation.  Topics include evolution & ecology and may include cells & genetics.   (one semester, 5 credits)

 Applied Biology

reading and/or science stanines of 3-4 or permission of dep't chairperson

This class is for those students who have difficulty reading and who have reading-comprehension stanines and/or science stanines of 3 or 4.   (two semesters, 10 credits)

 Biology 

 10 - 12

 none, stanines > 4

 This is a college-prep biology class and it is the right choice for most high school students.  Topics include cells, genetics, evolution, ecology, biochemistry, etc. (two semesters, 10 credits)

CRTs: Life Sciences 1- 4 & 5 (Performance Assessment)

Biology D*

9 - 12

 high ability (stanines > 6)  & interest and/or invitation

 This college prep class is appropriate for students who have a high interest in biology and who have shown much ability in science.  (two semesters, 10 credits)

 This college-prep class concerns the interacting systems of our Earthóthe atmosphere, geosphere, hydrosphere, and biosphere.  Global climate change is just one of several current topics presented.  (one semester, 5 credits)

This weighted class is ìweighî more challenging than regular chemistry. Greater depth of concepts and additional topics are covered as compared to chemistry. (two semesters, 10 credits)

If you are going to college, but are not planning to major in science or engineering, this class may be for you. This course focuses more on the conceptual understanding of physics.

This class is for students interested in plants, plant evolution, the importance of plants to hu‚man cultures, plant structures and diversity.  (one semester, 5 credits)

Zoology

This class is for students who have high interest and ability in biology and who wish to learn about ani‚mals.  Dissection is a major part of the class.  (one semester, 5 credits)

Animal Behavior

This class is for students who are curious about how animals live their lives.   (one semester, 5 credits)

Environmental Studies  (Biennial Odd Yr)

This class is for students who are very interested in ecology and in the preservation of our natural world. (one semester, 5 credits)

Microbiology

11-12 successful achievement in Biology with a grade of C or better (we recommend Chemistry) This class if for students who are interested in learning about bacteria, yeast, protozoa, and other micro-organisms (one semester, 5 credits)

Genetics

successful achievement in Biology with a grade of C or better. (we recommend Chemistry)

This class is for those who are interested in the way that genetic traits and characteristics are inherited, expressed, and controlled in living things.  (one semester, 5 credits)

Anatomy & Physiology

11 - 12

successful completion of Biology with a grade of C or better

This class is for students interested in learning about the human body.   (two semesters, 10 credits)

Advanced Chemistry *

11 - 12

 successful achievement in Chemistry 1& 2  or teacher permission.

This is an advanced laboratory course for scientifically motivated students.  Topics include organic chemistry and biochemistry.   This is a weighted course.

Astronomy

 (Biennial Odd Yr)

11-12 successful completion of a physics class This is an introductory course in astronomy and sky study. (one semester, 5 credits)

AP Advanced Physics*

11-12 very successful completion of Physics or teacher permission This is an advanced physics course for especially motivated students. Topics include high energy physics and astrophysics. (two semesters, 10 credits)
