Photojournalism Instructions – Short

1. DOWNLOADING IMAGES FROM THE CAMERA

• Connect Camera to computer –

• Turn camera ON. Put camera in Play mode

• Launch iPhoto

• Click Import – Your photos will be  downloaded to an iPhoto album.  Choose

 

Erase the photos from the camera. When finished downloading, disconnect camera, and erase the photos (push the Menu button on the camera, and select EraseAll from the menu, then select OK). Turn the camera off, and returnit to the teacher. 

DO NOT JUST PUT THE CAMERA BACK IN THE DRAWER!
IT MUST BE CHECKED IN

Remember to return your Name Tag also.

 

2. MOVING PHOTOS TO YOUR DESKTOP FOLDER

Make a New Folder in your 2008.2Photos folder on your Desktop.

Title it with the Period, Assignment, Date, and your first name: P4Portrait2.14.8.Lisa

Drag iPhoto Film Roll to your new, named Assignment Folder

 

3. BATCH RENAMING

Open Photoshop

File – Browse Folders

Navigate to new folder in your Photos Folder on the Desktop

• Edit – Select All - (from the File Browser Window)

• Automate – Batch Rename – Period,Assignment,1st Name: P2UniqueMary

Choose the +3 digit serial number option. DON’T include the date in the file name.

Deselect – click OFF of the selected photos ONCE.

Then Double Click on the photo you want to use for your assignment. This will open the photo in a new window.

 

4. RESIZING IMAGES

***If you need to crop the image to improve Composition, be sure to

CROP FIRST, THEN RESIZE. **

• Image – Resize – Image Size

• Change Document Size to 8 x 6 and 72 dpi – Click Okay

• Go to File and select File Info. Include caption information and your name.

• File – SAVE AS– Navigate to Website folder and to your Images Folder – Click Save

•Image Quality– Maximum/Baseline Standard

 

5. PLACING IMAGES ON WEB PAGES

• Open the Assignment Page (for example: PersonAtWork.html) from the Pages folder in your Website folder. (Drag the page onto the Dreamweaver icon in your Dock to open it.

• Insert – Image – go to Website ImagesFolder. Click on the photo you want to place.

• Type Caption under photo. Check to be sure it’s in the correct style. Ask Mr. Keller to check it BEFORE  the day it’s due.

• Repeat with more photos if needed.

 

6. MAKING LINKS

•Open Index Page from your Websites folder on the Photojournalism Server.

Select/Highlight the Assignment Name from the Table

• Modify – Make Link

• Navigate to Pages Folder – Click on the correct Assignment Page (For example: PersonAtWork.html)

• Click Choose

Be sure to put the Submit Date in the column to the right of the assignment. (10pts)

SAVE your index page.

 

You’re done. Go take more photos.
