Every week, we shine a spotlight on one Lincoln Public Schools staff member! This week, meet Lisa Kiely, administrative assistant at Lincoln High School.

“Lisa is one of the kindest and most hardworking people you will ever meet. She is the glue that holds our office together. She remembers birthdays, organizes office potlucks and events, and is always ready with a gentle smile and encouraging words. Lisa has been at Lincoln High for 17 years and is known and loved throughout the building. Lisa has wonderful relationships with students and they know she is a trusted adult if they ever need help. Overall, Lincoln High would not be the same without her. We are blessed to work with someone as thoughtful, intelligent, and kind as her.” - Kayla Kolts, payroll secretary, Lincoln High School

In a few sentences, briefly describe your role at LPS.
I assist the associate principals with their daily responsibilities. I am also the TeamMates facilitator here. We had 89 matches last year! I'm passionate about this program, and it keeps me pretty busy.

How long have you worked for LPS?
Seventeen years.

What inspired you to become part of the education field at LPS?
Being surrounded by teenagers is never a dull moment, and our students at Lincoln High regularly inspire me. They keep me young!

What has been your favorite part of working here? What aspect of your job do you find most rewarding?
The staff and students that make up Lincoln High are the best! Our inclusive community and culture are very supportive and nurture the educational environment.

In one word, what makes you proud to work for LPS?
Community.

Did you attend LPS as a student? If so, which school(s)? If not, where are you from?
My educational journey started in San Francisco, Calif., followed by St. Louis, Mo., Houston, Texas, and a degree in education from Stephen F. Austin State University in Nacogdoches, Texas. I moved to Lincoln in 1993.

What path did you take after completing your formal education?
I taught elementary school in Houston, Texas; Bulverde, Texas; Austin, Texas; and Fayetteville, Ark. While working with young children was very rewarding, I appreciate being surrounded by teenagers. You never know what they're going to say!

What do you enjoy most about the Lincoln community?
It takes only 15 minutes to drive just about anywhere in this town! I feel that the community, as a whole, is very supportive and provides many opportunities and resources.

What is your favorite childhood book or a book that has influenced your life positively?
I loved “The Indian in the Cupboard,” “The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe,” and of course, "Where the Red Fern Grows!” Stories that include fantasy, compassion, and adventure still capture my attention.

Share a shout out to a former administrative assistant who impacted your life.
Marsha Munger! She wasn't a teacher, but she worked in the office at Lincoln High for over 35 years. She taught me so much about resilience and acceptance. She has the best sense of humor, so there was plenty of laughter for all of us.
